More About the National Symbols

National Flag (Tiranga): The saffron colour stands for courage and sacrifice. White stands for peace and truth. Green stands for faith and prosperity. The blue Ashoka Chakra has 24 spokes.

National Anthem: "Jana Gana Mana" was written by Rabindranath Tagore. We stand up straight and sing it with respect. It takes about 52 seconds to sing.

Bengal Tiger: The tiger is strong, brave, and powerful. It is found in the forests of India. We must protect tigers because they are endangered.

Peacock: The peacock is the most beautiful bird in India. It dances when it rains. Its feathers are blue and green with eye-like patterns.

Ravi saw a peacock dancing in the rain at his grandmother's village. He said, "Now I understand why the peacock is our national bird. It is so beautiful!"
