Let Us Begin!

When you talk to a friend, you share your ideas one by one. Writing a paragraph is just like that -- you put your ideas about one topic together in an organised way. A paragraph is a group of sentences that talk about the same idea. Learning to write good paragraphs will help you express your thoughts clearly in essays, letters, and stories.

What Is a Paragraph?

A paragraph is a group of sentences about one main idea. All the sentences in a paragraph should be connected to the same topic.

A good paragraph has three parts:

The Three Parts of a Paragraph

1. Topic Sentence -- This is the first sentence. It tells the reader what the paragraph is about. It introduces the main idea.

2. Supporting Sentences -- These are the middle sentences. They give details, reasons, or examples to explain the main idea.

3. Concluding Sentence -- This is the last sentence. It sums up the paragraph or gives a final thought. It brings the paragraph to a close.

Think about it: A paragraph is like a sandwich -- the topic sentence is the top slice of bread, the supporting sentences are the filling, and the concluding sentence is the bottom slice.
