Every day you do many things. You wake up, you eat breakfast, you walk to school, you read books, and you play with friends. All these action words — wake, eat, walk, read, play — are called doing words. We also call them verbs!
What Is a Doing Word?
A doing word is a word that shows an action. It tells us what a person or animal does.
Common doing words: run, jump, eat, sleep, play, read, write, sing, dance, cook, swim, fly, bark, sit, stand, clap, draw, kick, throw, catch
Think: What are you doing right now? You are reading! "Reading" is a doing word.
