Listen to this: "The cat sat on a mat." Cat and mat sound the same at the end — they both end with "-at". Words that end with the same sound are called rhyming words. Rhyming words make poems and songs fun to say and easy to remember!
What Are Rhyming Words?
Rhyming words are words that end with the same sound.
Example: cat and bat rhyme because they both end with "-at".
Example: sun and fun rhyme because they both end with "-un".
Example: ring and sing rhyme because they both end with "-ing".
Rhyming Word Families
Words that rhyme belong to the same word family. Here are some common families:

Simple Rhymes
"The cat sat on a mat,
It wore a funny hat."
"The sun is so much fun,
Ravi loves to run."

"I saw a frog sitting on a log,
Playing with a little dog."
"Meena went to the shop,
She bought a spinning top,
And then she did a hop!"
How to Find Rhyming Words
Follow these simple steps to find a rhyming word:
- Step 1: Listen to the ending sound of the word. Example: "cat" ends with "-at".
- Step 2: Think of other words that end with the same sound. Example: bat, hat, mat, rat.
- Step 3: Say both words together. If they sound the same at the end, they rhyme!
