Animals Around Us

Class 3

🎯 Learning Objectives

📖 Let Us Begin!

Do you have a pet at home? Maybe a dog, a cat, or a parrot? Have you seen cows, goats, and hens in your neighbourhood?

Animals are all around us — in our homes, on farms, in forests, in rivers, and even in the sky! Some animals are tiny like ants, and some are huge like elephants. Each animal is special in its own way.

Let us learn about the wonderful animals around us!

Types of Animals

We can group animals based on where they live and how they relate to humans:

1. Pet Animals (Domestic Animals kept at home)

These animals live with us at home. We take care of them, feed them, and love them. They give us company and happiness.

Examples: Dog, Cat, Parrot, Fish, Rabbit, Turtle, Hamster.

2. Farm Animals (Domestic Animals kept on farms)

These animals are kept by farmers. They give us food (milk, eggs, meat) or help with work (ploughing, carrying loads).

Examples: Cow, Buffalo, Hen, Goat, Sheep, Horse, Ox, Duck, Pig.

3. Wild Animals

These animals live in forests, jungles, deserts, and rivers. They find their own food and shelter. We should not keep them at home.

Examples: Lion, Tiger, Elephant, Deer, Bear, Monkey, Crocodile, Snake, Wolf.

Three types of animals — pet, farm, and wild animals
Think about it: A dog can be a pet, but a tiger cannot. Why? Because wild animals are dangerous and need large open spaces to live freely!

4. Water Animals (Aquatic Animals)

Some animals live in water — in rivers, ponds, lakes, and oceans.

Examples: Fish, Whale, Dolphin, Octopus, Shark, Turtle, Frog (lives both in water and on land).

5. Animals that Fly

Many animals can fly using wings.

Examples: Birds (sparrow, eagle, parrot), Bat (the only flying mammal), Butterfly, Bee.

What Do Animals Eat?

Animals eat different kinds of food. We group them by what they eat:

Omnivore (eats both)Both plants and animalsDog, Bear, Crow, Hen, Pig, Human
Herbivores, carnivores, and omnivores with examples
What do you eat? Roti, dal, rice, vegetables, milk, eggs, chicken? We humans are omnivores because we eat both plant food and animal food!
